The latest exhibition from the BROOKESart team is in full swing - the BROOKEStock festival:

At the start of the 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic I was in a bit of an artistic rut.  I thought I wouldn't be doing much drawing and painting.

Everyone was worried about the same things - going out, whether they were going to get enough food, toilet rolls.... the endless queues at supermarket, helping their mums and dads who lived in different areas of the country, helping their aging relatives....

Painting?  Would I have the time, would I have the inclination, would anyone be bothered, what was the point?

The Kids are Alright

2016.  The Cooper Gallery.  September through October.

Re-visiting my early years of music and art influences; the mod scene - parkas, scooters, Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, Levi sta-prest, loafers.  The music was always extraordinary - the advent of soul labels; Tamla Motown, Kent, Okeh, Stateside, Stax.  Bands; The Small Faces, The Who, The Kinks, Amen Corner, and one of my favourite albums; Quadrophenia.

The fashion and music of the mod subculture hasn't changed much over the years. Kid...

Former member of the fabulous Undertones, internationally famous solo artist Feargal Sharkey (currently CEO of British Music Rights and head of UK Music) was persuaded by Barnsley MP and fellow Beatles lover, Michael Dugher, to be patron of the Live In Barnsley (LIB) music festival.

To thank him for his support of LIB, Michael Dugher asked if I could do a sketch/cartoon for Feargal that celebrated the day.

I decided to surprise them both with a portrait of a sort that expressed what...

If you've ever seen the Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican you will realise that my artwork and the creative vision of Head Doonican and fellow Beatles-obsessive, Scott, is a marriage made in Pepperland.

We first collaborated on his album Bestest Bits, back in 2013, and when he asked if I could "do something" with an old guitar......

well, have a look and see for yourself.

As the Fab Four would say.....All You Need Is Love

Front page in the Chronic Barnacle - a very happy Doonican

I really enjoyed painting the Yellow Strum M...

What would have happened if the Beatles did actually visit Barnsley whilst making their iconic album?  How would the world of music have reacted if the Beatles had called their world-famous album Market Hill instead of Abbey Road?............

I have always painted; self-taught, and driven and enthused by my dad who was, amongst other things, a semi-professional wrestler, painter, signwriter, builder.  All the stuff I'm doing now have roots in what I was doing in my teens – pop art, music, comic related stuff; influenced by...
